Being honest with yourself takes courage. It may seem like something you would want to avoid, but it is necessary and once you start doing it, it becomes easier in time. Self reflection turns into self-direction. And with self-direction, your’e going somewhere with a focused mind, with all your energies focused towards a specific goal that will be conquered.
1. Take time to yourself. Find a quiet space to reflect. What is going in your life? What are some things that you need to reflect upon? Be sure not to rush yourself. This will take a quiet mind. Think: is there anything I can improve on?
2. Think objectively. Since your emotions are attached to things you are thinking about, try to think about it from the outside-in. See things from another point of view, step outside of yourself and leave your ego out of it. When you leave your ego out of it, it will keep everything in perspective for you. This is the best way to self-reflect.
3. Write it down. For the things that are hard for you to decide upon, make a chart. Write “Good” on one side and “Bad” on the other side of the paper. Does the good outweigh the bad? If not, you should probably decide against this thing.
Make a short term and long term goals list. Follow it, and self-reflect again… after some time – after you have made some progress 🙂
